When I lived in London (I still think it was yesterday, but truth be told, we have been back in Sydney now for nearly two years!) I was taught how to do the trademark London eyeline flick that so many of the young women wear there. Seriously, every young woman I saw on the tube was sporting this cool look. I was introduced to it during a free make over at the Bobbi Brown make up counter at Harvey Nichols, Westfield London (couldn’t afford anything in the store back then!) and I have used the technique almost every day since! Bobbi Brown use eye gel and a special brush which looks fantastic but I’m going to tell you about a easier (and cheaper) way to get the same effect.

You can imagine how excited I was to get my hands on Maybelline’s new Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner so that I could do that London flick to perfection back in Oz. First of all, the liquid application means it is easy to just glide the eye liner on in a few simple strokes, and the precise tip allows you to create as thin a line as you want.

But be careful girls, the liquid eyeliner has a bit more staying power when first applied, so have some make up remover close to fix any mistakes.

The London flick basically starts off with a thin line at the inner corner of the top eye lid, and then graduates out to a thicker line towards the outer edge of the eye lid. I’ve added a picture here to show how it can look. This picture features an exaggerated flick at the end which can be great for night time or if you are comfortable with wearing your eyeliner that way.

The flick style is great to wear during the day as it just accentuates the top of the eye lid, it really makes your eyes pop. To wear during the day, don’t add any liner or shadow on the bottom of your eye – and then to enhance the look for ‘after five’, simply add some dark shimmery eye shadow or smudged pencil liner under your eye for that ‘smoky’ look.

Admittedly it took me a while to get the London flick just right, and there are some days when it just doesn’t work for me. But my tip is to grab this liquid eyeliner from Maybelline as the precise tip helps with application, and then just wear it as often as you can to make it work! ImageImage

I first came across this when I went for my first make-up appointment at Napoleon Bondi Junction, the day of my university graudation. The make up artist applied Napoleon’s primer underneath my make up and I also got a sample which I used only for special occassions – when I needed my make up to last all day.

Seven years later, I picked up the set of primer at the famous Napoleon sale in Alexandria, scoring the normal primer as well as the BRONZER primer. Lucky me!

I’ve alternated between the two primers over the differing seasons and can always rely on the primer to set my make up all day, as well as protect my skin. I rarely use foundation without this primer, and I have a few other primers ear marked to try in future.

This primer has a very lightweight formula that goes on easily, but you should wait a few minutes before applying your foundation.  If you are in a real rush you can mix your foundation and primer together for a one off application.

Primers can be seen as unneessary steps in the beauty routine but they really can protect your skin from any nasties in your foundation.  This pronzing primer is one of a kind and I can’t wait to start using it again in the summer months.Image

The original and still the best! Rumour has it that Naomi Campbell swears by this fantastic mascara in that great fluro pink and green packaging. This mascara also comes in a waterproof version and I love the brown black version as oppose to the straight black. Brown black gives you a softer look, is great for already dark lashes and is perfect for daytime wear. I participated in a photo shoot recently and did not even blink when I saw that the make up artist was applying this mascara to all involved. A beauty classic!!

I finished my face serum the other day and was looking what was next on my list, and came across soap and glory’s wish upon a jar 21 day renewal cream.
At first I was a bit hesitant to buy it as it clearly states that you can only use the product for 21 days straight per season! Also you have to wear a moisturizer with suncream after you apply it in the morning so there’s no pigmentation damage on your skin. How strong is this stuff?!
However, The first time I used it I was impressed. It was a great smell that is synonymous with the brand and the next morning when I woke up it felt like I had just had the most sumptuous of moisturizing facial masks on all night.
It hasn’t been the full 21 days yet so I can’t report on the final effects but I can already feel that my face feels more full and primed, make up goes on easier and stays on for longer, and my skin feels more bouncy and resilient.
I tried to tell my girlfriends on the wkend how great it was but they didn’t believe that a cream like this off the high st could have such effect so soon.
Try it for yourself and let me know what you think! The only thing I’m upset about is that I can only use it for 21 days and then have to wait three months to use it again!!
